In January 1983, the company was officially established in Altenberg, Germany, initially focusing on water quality analysis.

Drawing on his extensive expertise in chemistry and engineering, Dr. Erwin Wessling consistently applies his scientific and engineering knowledge to provide business partners with high-quality analytical and consulting services tailored to their specific needs.

Establishment of the first off-site laboratory in Altenberge, Germany—the Langenhagen Field Laboratory

In 1988, the company established its first off-site laboratory—the Langenhagen Site Laboratory—in Altenberg, Germany. This move marked a crucial step in WESSLING’s transition from a single-laboratory operation to a networked structure.

Since 1992, WESSLING has been establishing offices in various regions around the world, marking the beginning of its global expansion.

As the company has continued to grow, it has remained true to its principles. WESSLING has consistently upheld the philosophy established at its founding and has earned an enviable reputation for its consulting services—which are rooted in engineering and scientific expertise and always tailored to the specific needs of its clients—and is renowned for its precise analytical methods and test results.

In 2013, WESSLING’s Shanghai branch was officially established, marking WESSLING’s official entry into the Chinese market.

This is WESSLING’s first branch office in Asia, marking a key step forward for the 35-year-old German family-owned company as it formally expands into the Chinese market.

On March 25, WESSLING Holding GmbH & Co. KG signed an agreement with the Australian publicly traded company ALS Limited to transfer ownership of the family-owned business to ALS.

This decision stems from an increasingly dynamic market environment that places higher demands on companies’ investment capabilities. WESSLING’s shareholders chose to seek a new owner capable of driving long-term growth for the family-owned business.

In order to provide better and more flexible service to our customers, the WESSLNG China team and the ALS Group, after multiple rounds of discussions, have ultimately decided to operate independently.

Building on the present, WESSLING China leverages “precision and creativity” as its two driving forces, upholding German professional standards while deeply integrating into the local Chinese ecosystem.
